Devil Z and Black Zarak

The noncorporeal form of Devil Z Black Zarak

Devil Z is an immobile, pulsating energy entity who led the Destrons on Earth throughout the Masterforce series. His voice happens to sound similar to Black Zarak and Megazarak from the earlier Headmasters series. In fact, he was Megazarak, eventually taking over Black Zarak when the monolith arrived on Earth from outer space, and gained mobility. He is capable of severing the humans' bonds to their Transformer bodies, or transtectors.

Here (21K, series, 11/2/98) is another view of Devil Z from the side atop a pedestal, with the human Destron Godmasters.

Near the end of the series Devil Z caused paranormal activity all over the world, and stripped the Destron Headmaster Juniors and Overlord of their transtectors when they started to rebel against him. As Black Zarak he could throw Devil Thunder Rings to paralyze his opponents. When God Ginrai knocked off his head in a fiery display, Black Zarak transformed the rest of his body into a two-headed hydra, with the new heads formed by moving his clawed arms above his shoulders. Despite stripping Ginrai of his direct connection to the God Ginrai body, Black Zarak was eventually destroyed when Ginrai and the three Cybertron Headmaster Juniors powered up God Ginrai with an enormous amount of Masterforce energy to blast through Black Zarak's energy shield.

Here are my pictures of Black Zarak in action from the series:

In addition to a recolor of the original Scorponok, he is given a new, better head and a large spear. The front pair of head spikes is actually a removable piece. This is so that it can be placed over his entire face in his other two modes, leaving only a notch for his nose. The blue-colored parts on the top of his helmet are the scorpion mode's eyes. The front part of his helmet can be swung up to reveal Headmaster Zarak in his new, different colors. Oddly the Headmaster isn't really necessary for this body, since it already has a head. Zarak is needed only to activate the Headmaster tech specs meter hidden by his gold-chromed chest plate. In scorpion mode Zarak can be detached, transformed, and placed inside an open compartment below the meter.

Unfortunately, the golden brown parts tend to break quite easily, as if they are not built or molded to the same level of quality as the rest of his plastic parts.
